Résumé : L’idiorrythmie, terme que Barthes emprunte au vocabulaire religieux des monastères et qui répond à son « fantasme d’une solitude collective », d’un compromis entre retrait et engagement, est, selon nous, en germe depuis les premiers travaux et sous-tend toute son écriture. Car, parmi le foisonnement de métaphores littéraires ou philosophiques mobilisées pour mener à bien son combat d’écrivain contre le mythe, l’arrogance, l’alibi, la mauvaise foi ou la doxa, l’idiorrythmie joue un rôle privilégié. En tant que dispositif critique elle rappellera à l’écriture, face et simultanément à la tentation de se réfugier dans le neutre ou le haïku, et souligne l’urgence de la praxis, « batailler, investir, planter » (Barthes, 2003 : 30), même et précisément au bord l’idiomatique, de la singularité, de la folie : comme assomption d’un style et d’une pensée de la part d’un Barthes ermite, idiot, jouisseur, philosophe, écrivain.

Abstract : Idiorrythmy, term that Barthes borrows from the religious vocabulary of the monasteries and which meets his « fantasy of collective loneliness », of a compromise between retreat and involvement, is, in our view, in embryonic form from the first essays and underlies all Barthes’ writings. Indeed, amongst the profusion of literary and philosophical metaphors recalled to fight against myth, arrogance, alibi and doxa, idiorrythmy plays a special part. As a critical instrument it spurs to writing, against and together with the tendency to take refuge in the neutral or the haiku, and underlines the urgency of praxis : « to battle, to invest, to plant » (Barthes, 2003 : 30), even and especially at the edge of idiomaticity, singularity, madness : as an assumption of a style and a thought by a Barthes as a hermit, an idiot, an epicure, a philosopher.
